Calendar repeats indiscriminately

Google calendar repeats reminders indiscriminately without my input on various dates. Sometimes I have up to 7 false reminders on one date, where there should be none. How does this happen and how can I correct it?

Nothing comes to mind, but if I had this problem the first thing I would do would be to go my Google settings in a web-browser and check all settings related to calendars. If it were one unexpected reminder, I’d suspect that events are being created with a default reminder set (pretty sure Google Calendars can do this). Multiple reminders seems excessive, but other than checking settings, I can’t think of anything to do.

If you are using Google Calendars through Apple’s Calendar app, you can also set default reminders in Settings > Calendar.

Other third party apps may have the ability to set default reminders.

Come to think of it, a combination of these might result in multiple default reminders.
