Following last year’s trend, Apple has reportedly managed to again take the number one spot as top global PC/Tablet vendor. The information comes to us via a new report released by independent research firm Canalys, that claims the tech giant managed to snatch 20% of the total global market in the fourth quarter of 2012.
Compared to the precedent year, in the holiday season, Cupertino rose by 3%, shipping 15 million iPads and 5 million Macs. The Canalys report also seems to indicate that the PC business was on the rise in 2012, PC shipments (in which tablets are included, as well) has risen with 12%, compared to the same time in 2011. It’s probably because of the thriving iPad business that Apple managed to get the number one spot as the most prolific seller of personal computers. In the Q4 of 2012, the tech giant accounted for more than 27 million units sold worldwide, chunking a big part of the total 134 million sold globally. The difference, compared to 2011, is quite visible – as PC business grabbed the attention of only 120 million customers, back then.
Coming up to take the following positions where HP and Lenovo, with each one of them selling approximately 15 million units. Based on the numbers, the competition between the two companies announces itself to be quite fierce in the near future.
Canalys broke down the numbers to showcase just how much tablets contributed to the surging numbers in the PC industry. All in all, tablet business increased 75% year-over-year, accounting for 46.2 million of global sales.
