Another newbie

My husband who hates technology recieved an Ipod, Iphone and an IPad from a very greatful client as a thank you for all the work he did.
HOWEVER, he would now like to try these things. Hard to teach someone who has no patience and just wants to dial a phone number.
I am currently trying to take photos from his sony camera, to laptop and then Ipad so he can reference them. I have read step by step manual and it texts that you need a camera connection. Then I found a link that told me to use the cable cord ( is that the same as the charger?) and itunes should pop up and it didn't so I manual opened it and still can't get pictures FROM pc to Ipad.... what am I missing???

I have a Sony camera and I upload my photos directly to my iPad with a Camera Connection Kit, food for thought!
