Found that since updating iPad os to 4.2.1 the autofill has stopped working and the keyboard will not stay up in the few web sites I tried.
Upon further testing, I determined that when I use igoogle setting, safari registers a number of JavaScript errors.
I switched to e classic google search page and turned off the instant search. This has eliminated the errors and problem I had with e keyboard closing unexpectedly.
I still however, have not solved the autofill issue.
