What's the blue dot by the app name?

I've noticed that some apps have a blue dot on the left side of the app name under the icon. The blue dot comes and goes. Yesterday I had one next to my DropBox app and today I have a dot next to my Shazam app. Not only that, but today the dot next to my DropBox app is gone.

Below is a snip of four icons from a page on my iPad Air screen. You can see the dot next to the Shazam app.

What in the world does the blue dot signify?

That means that the app hasn't been opened since the last time it was updated. The blue dot will disappear after you open and close the the app.
