Using a Wifi iPad with a Virgin Mobile phone-will it work?

I am planning on getting an iPad and was thinking of getting a Virgin Mobile phone with something like HTC EVO 4G and using that as a hotspot for my iPad.

That way, I get unlimited data for one price and have both phone and iPad access off of one account.

Do you think this idea would work?

There is no reason why it shouldn't work, as long as your phone can make a WiFi hotspot and it's supported by your carrier. A lot of people buy the WiFi-only iPads, just because they can tether when/if they need to.

Just remember, the wifi-only iPad has no GPS capability. If that's important to you.
