Hi all, I am new to this group. Last year I purchased my new iPad2 and have encountered problems trying to up date to version 5.1.
I tried using iTunes on my PC 6 times and it timed out each time. I then downloaded it using my browser which worked ok.
However I have had no success installing it, the error 3194 comes up every time. I have
Downloaded new version of itune
Remove all USBs
Checked windows is up to date
Turned off security system and firewall
Restarted my PC
What else is there for me to do before I take it to an Apple store?

Hi leelai and thanks for your comments. My version of iTunes is 10.1.2. I even deleted my first copy of it in case it was corrupted, and replaced it with another

You need to update your iTunes as that isn't the latest version. It is now 10.6, so do this and you should be on your way.

Hi leelai, downloaded iTunes 10.6.0.40, did all the other things like firewall etc and it still failed to work. I didn't say that the software update file was iPad2,1-5.0.1-9A405-Restore.ipsw

Can you tell me what version you are on now, look in Settings - General - About and look for Version. If I've got this right are you saying that the update you are doing is for 5.0.1?

Updating now will take you to 5.1 and the jump to IOS 5 is a huge one and will take some time and depends on what you already have on your iPad. Make sure you do a backup first. Try switching to a different USB port, turn off virus protection and firewall for the duration. Are you on the same PC that you have used for your iPad?
Here is a video mini tutorial for you that I found helpful

Try again and see how you go.

At last I have cracked the problem. I had forgotten that my Tivio had a wireless connection to my modem which it uses to update the tv programming. Last night, after 11 hours I was able to download and then install the update! Thanks for your help and sorry to have wasted your time

Well that's great to hear, better keep that in mind for next time, but from now on you will be able to update OTA (over the air) You didn't waste my time at all, I'm just glad you were finally able to update, and you're going to love all the new features you'll have now. Enjoy!
