AppleInsider reports today that Apple CEO Tim Cook has donated $291,791 to Pennsylvania’s Steel Valley School District in honour of former Apple board member Bill Campbell.

The school district has officially voted that it will be spending the generous donation on purchasing iPads for every student in the district, as well as funding the training of teachers to use the new technology.

The gift from Cook was announced back in September, but it has only been officially accepted by the school district this week. Steel Valley superintendant Ed Wehrer told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the district was “excited to be working with Apple.”

The iPads will be rolled out to students in time for the 2015-2016 school year, writes the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, but prior to that, administrators are tasked with working out how the iPads can be best used in the classroom. With this in mind, they have already visited other schools where iPads are used by students to see how it can be done.

Seems a generous thing to do, donating that $291,791. But just wondering about that last $1. Did the Apple bean counters say that$291800 would be too much, let alone a nice round $300.000? Ahh, the world of high finance (and tax deductions:))

Maybe that's what it would cost to provide enough iPads for all the students in the district.
