The 80s Thread!

I miss the 80s so much sometimes I could cry. As much as I appreciate the progress we have made technologically since then, I see a lot of other societal aspects I would rather not have and I also see more loss of freedom with more technological advancement.

That song came out when I was like 15 or 16. Life was a very interesting time for us younger people then. We were still in a cold war with the Bear and people felt that nuclear annihilation could and would happen at any time, it was always in the back of everyone's mind. If you were to ask any American at the time if they though sooner or later the nukes would come down, they would say yes.

We didn't know much about the Bear and what we saw on TV were a bunch of gray people who had nothing and perhaps their only goal was to destroy us while we were so busy partying and shopping without a care in mind.

Last time I tuned in to one of those radio stations that play only classic and oldies, I was expecting to hear music from the 50s and 60s but they were plying all 80s and 90s...

You young puppies amuse me. I miss the '50s. Well, not all of it--even as a child in elementary school, I thought duck-and-cover drills were silly cold-war paranoia, and I really do prefer telephones with buttons.

The '80s was when America lost its way, as truth became devalued in favor of lazy conformity. It has not recovered, only gotten worse.

Boy, I'm w/ Lanny - my son was born in 1973! Our first computer, an Apple II+, came into the house in 1980, just before the IBM PC was released in '81 - so he was playing on a computer at 6-7 years of age and likely could relate to some of the opening posts in this thread - now an IT specialist in Indianapolis.
