Scratch on Screen

I just bought my son's used iPad1. I want to buy a screen protector, but it has a light scratch that I'd like to remove first. Is there any way to remove or polish out the scratch?

Even if you find a product that says it will, I'd be very sceptical. It would be far too easy to cause more damage than you cure.

A good screen protector should make the scratch less noticable.
