Program close to the quickoffice but free

Hello,i want to apologize at first if i am writing in the wrong section but i thought that this is the right.And now to my question,i am searching for a application which is close to the quickoffice can work with documents,but the main problem is that i want to upload to the application,a concrete doc.file in order to edit it directly from the Ipad,is there a application like that.I am writing a book,and want to continue writing it on my Ipad.Thank you))

Pages can process a .doc and .docx files, but the app is not free.

I have yet to hear anyone recommend one of the free office suite apps. They tend to be more pain than saving a few bucks is worth.

Of course, for writing, a full Word compatible app isn't really necessary. Writing is about getting the text down, and organized. There are several apps, cheaper but not free, that can do this for you. Darned if I can remember the names of the better ones though.

Ok, checked my memory (also known as Evernote), and this was the last-best writing app that caught my eye. I'm always trying to convince myself to start writing, so I tend to notice the cooler apps to that end.
