Pinterest is a web and mobile application company that offers a visual discovery, collection, sharing, and storage tool with millions of iPhone, iPad users across the world. And the company now wants its visual social network to be a destination for app downloads, as it has partnered with Apple to allow iPhone and iPad users download iOS apps directly from its mobile app.

Julie Black, Product Manager at Pinterest, said the following on the official blog:

"Now if you’re on your iPhone or iPad, you’ll see another kind of Pin: app Pins. Let’s say you’re Pinning workout inspiration to your Marathon Training board. If you see a fitness app that helps you reach your goals, you can download it right from Pinterest."

From now on, when you will come across an app Pin, you will just have to tap the 'Install' button to download the app right to your iPhone or iPad without ever leaving Pinterest. This move makes a lot of sense for the company, as they are looking to make users spend more time inside the app.

The app view is identical to a typical App Store page, with screenshots, reviews, and related apps that appear on the same page. When users tap the "Get" or "Buy" button, they will have to authenticate with their Apple ID password or using Touch ID, and then install the app as usual.

Pinterest cofounder Evan Sharp said the following:

"We can be a really powerful service for app discovery, which is a problem that still really hasn't been solved. Our specialty is really connecting people to the things they want to do."
