AppleInsider reports today on a new survey from advertising analytics firm Chitika, which shows that Apple’s iPad continues to dominate in terms of web usage in the U.S., despite Android tablets selling well at the moment.

Breaking down tablet usage in terms of time of day, Chitika’s figures reveal that during peak evening hours of 9:00 p.m. Eastern, Android tablets are used 25% less than iPads. Chitika obtains its data by analysing tens of millions of tablet impressions, according to AppleInsider.

Microsoft’s Surface tablet came off even worse, with less than 5% of the usage that the iPad had at its peak. However, as AppleInsider reports, the Surface experienced a boost in usage during the work day, in comparison to the iPad and Android tablets’ performance during the day.

Aside from the evening surge, the iPad also seems to be used by more morning commuters, with usage figures going up by several percentage points during that time, in comparison with Android.

Chitika does not break down iPad usage in terms of iPad models, but AppleInsider notes that recent figures seemed to indicate that the full-size iPad Air, the newest version of the iPad, and the iPad 2, had sold slightly more than the iPad mini during the holiday period.
