EA Games released the iPad version of NBA Jam to the app store last week, and it looks like they’ve got another winner on their hands. EA’s resurrection of the classic gaming series has already proved to be a huge hit on console and iPhone, and now with the iPad version players can jam with all 30 NBA teams and their favourite NBA stars, with unlockable legends such as Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and Danny Manning, as well secret players that are exclusive to the iPad version. NBA Jam has always been known for its famously outrageous cheats such as Big Head mode, and the iPad version is no exception. The game even gives you the choice of getting all the unlockables immediately via in-app purchase.
The game has three modes of play: Play Now, Classic Campaign and Local Multiplayer. In Play Now, you simply choose your team and start playing; in Classic Campaign you must defeat all the other teams to win the championship; and in Local Multiplayer you can go big head to big head against a friend on iPad via local Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (as seen in the above trailer).
Old school fans of the ‘90s game will recognise the voice of Tim Kitzrow, the original NBA Jam play-by-play announcer, as well as all the classic catchphrases such as “boomshakalaka,†and there are also some brand new ones thrown in to bring the game right up to date for a whole new audience.
