1) I created a web site with security
2) Login using safari and 'add to home screen'
3) close safari and launch page from webclip Icon on home screen
4) scroll to a "mailto:" link in middle of page and click
5) device launches email client
6) I double click home button to see multitasking bar
7) click webclip icon from multitasking
8) return to website but page is reset rather than returning to where I was.

I want to go to the email client but I also want to return to the page and location where I was prior to clicking 'mailto:' link. Is it possible freeze browser and return to it if it was launched from home screen? If so, how?

Thanks in advance for any help...

It appears, from other posts that I have read on the Forum, that this is a Safari 'feature' that has to do with the limited RAM (system memory) that the iPad has (256 MB) and, therefore, its ability to cache (store) web pages. As a result, when you leave and then later return to Safari the web page is often (though not always) 'refreshed' because the memory used to store the original page was 're-used' by the iPad when you left Safari.

From the comments made by other Forum members there is no way to avoid this problem.

I'm not certain I understand what you are describing, but it is probably because of the nature of the shortcut icon. This is really a bookmark, not some alternate version of Safari running in the background. It will behave, or should, just like any other bookmark in Safari, except it is an icon on the Home page.

Apps are either frozen in RAM, or have their state stored before being closed (usually). That is why they go back to where you left off when you open them again.

The shortcut icon you create is a bookmark for Safari. It points to a specific URL just like any other bookmark. So yes, it will always go back to the page that you were on when you created the icon. Because it is not an app.
