Media Centre - List files then push playback to TV

I have had an ipad for a while and I have not yet found what I am looking for. What I want to do is view the video files I have on my media centre on my ipad (using wifi preferably) including their meta data and cover art, which is stored with the files so it looks snazzy on the media centre.

From this view i dont want to be able to actually play the files but rather search for what I want to watch and start playback on the media centre. This would mean that beyond actually turning off/on and controlling the TV channel playback I would not need a remote.

Is there anything that remotely does this?

I have tried remote desktop apps but they tend to be rather hard to navigate.

If the Media software your running is XBMC, then there is several remotes on the store that will do what you want.

I am using Windows 7 and given the hours spent setting it up I would prefer not to change. That being said it does seem like other programs offer greater flexibility.
