A very big amount of math can be learnt by children from their daily activities: To begin learning one don't need to purchase expensive manipulative or workbooks. Manipulative is simply concrete objects, like beans or coins or clothespins, that children can move around as they count or explore math ideas. Through their direct observation and play math concepts come to them. They also learn from the language we use to help them talk about what they're doing. To challenge them to explore their ideas and to explain their thinking to us is our job.
