I keep seeing "iPad 2/3" or something similar in ads for these items. Does that mean they won't work for an original iPad?

Why? Difference/number of port holes?

The original iPad has a square edge while the iPad2 and new iPad have beveled edges. This square edge adds a dimension where the speaker, sleep button, toggle switches are on an edge versus on the beveled back of the iPad2 and the new iPad. In addition the iPad 2 and new have magnets that enable you to use smart covers, the original iPad does not.
