According to a new report published by the NPD Group, Apple’s iPad managed to obtain the biggest share of tablet sales in the U.S. during 2013. What’s curious is that the same report points to the fact that sales of Google Chromebooks have surpassed those of Mac notebooks in the laptop market. The report goes on to mention that overall tablet sales captured more than 22 percent of all personal computing device sales. Apple’s iPad sales accounted for 59 percent of the tablet sales volume. Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis, NPD, said the following

The market for personal computing devices in commercial markets continues to shift and change. New products like Chromebooks, and reimagined items like Windows tablets, are now supplementing the revitalization that iPads started in personal computing devices. It is no accident that we are seeing the fruits of this change in the commercial markets as business and institutional buyers exploit the flexibility inherent in the new range of choices now open to them.

The iPad accounted for 15.8% of personal computing device sales, almost twice than Android’s share of 8.7% and Windows tablets at 2.2%. Last year, Apple’s iconic tablet share was even bigger, as it made up for 17.1% of sales.
