Intermittent sound problems with certain apps. Can play iPod songs but apps sounds do not work. Any thoughts

Do you have the mute switch activated - that suppresses system sounds but not music etc.?

Depending upon your version of iOS - it could be activated via the switch next to the volume control or on the multi-task bar
