iPad Pro 5th Gen and gmail problems

Greetings

Last week purchased new ipad pro 12.9 5th gen, geek squad transferred everything from old iPad pro 1st gen where Gmail was setup as default email instead of icloud.

Gmail appears, however, new emails cannot be sent. However, replying to emails works.
Checked Settings, Mail, Accounts, Gmail, Mail & contacts buttons are On

Live 2 hours from geek squad. Any suggestions?

What are the steps for setting gmail to default. plz thx

Go to the Settings app, Mail, neer the bottom of the list you should find the Default account option.

Thank u, lady who uses iphone visited mom, folllowed these steps, hard reset done nothing changed.

Is there something else to try to fix these problems.
... ability to create new email
Without error msg that says cannot send.
.. to create email .. TO:
with previous contacts to show up when u type first couple letters
- contact list doesnt seem to be connected to gmail account

I'm confused as to what you are asking at this point.

As for contacts, if she want's to use her Google contacts then go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > GMail, and turn on the Contacts option. This should have been turned on by default when adding the account, but it's possible it got turned off somehow or other.
