Ipad 2 wifi 16gb newer version 2012 power button and volume not working

Hi ,
I have an ipad 2 16gb wifi with the newer version setup, I have replaced the front damaged screen and in the process nicked the power flex cable!! Common mistake a rookie makes. I ordered the correct flex cable and replaced the damaged one. Problem is that nothing works! Did I get a faulty cable? Has anyone repaired these and are there any videos available to look at. Again it's the new 2012 version not the original one. Any help will be greatful!!
I tried a hard reset didn't work and after restoring to factory settings still no luck. I installed the flex connector to the (grape nimbus) and I think at first put in upside down. The gold part was down I mean not right side up. Could this have caused a fault in the cable perhaps? Please help if you know anything. Much appreciated!!! Thanks Brian

I have fixed the issue!! You have to have screen on and while the screen is on pull ribbon cable out and reinsert it in. This worked and now all power, volume and mute are working like new.
