iPad 2 16Gb owner with no knowledge

Okay Okay little slow with this iPad 2 stuff. Got and iPad 2 for my birthday in august now looking to venture outside with it, I need and unlimited plan for it what company is the best. I also heard you can use an iPhones wifi but don't have an iPhone yet. I need to know if I should just go with a service provider or transfer to a company that has iPhones and use it's wifi wave.
