I don’t plan on downloading because I don’t have enough memory. How do I get rid of the annoying red 1 on my settings icon?

As you haven’t said, I’m assuming you are using iOS18 at the moment. You could try going to Settings > Apps > App Store and you’ll find a toggle to Offload Unused Apps. This will automatically remove apps you haven't used in a while to free up storage, keeping all your documents and data intact; the app will be reinstalled when you tap its icon again.
This may give you enough room to update.

I think its safe to download, but its reception has had rather mixed reviews.Is it safe to install IOS in yet!
