HP AIO 6500A Plus - Cannot Print

bustoc

iPF Noob
Bought this printer expressly for use with IPAD. It is awake...it prints fine from my PC. It is wireless. When I try to print from IPAD, it can find the printer OK. Then it attempts to "connect" and from then on, nothing! It just sits there. I've rebooted. I've read another post where user had similar problem, but there was no other solutions suggested. Does anyone have any idea of what I could try next other than purchasing a third-party app?

Thanks in advance!

Yes - we've had a member with this exact same printer who has experienced the precise problem that you've got. There appear to be several subtle variants of this model of printer out there - some that are AirPrint compatible and some that are not. Physically they are identical but have slightly different suffixes after the model name and number which appear to indicate the revision of firmware that they have and, thus, whether they're AirPrint compatible.

Can you see on the box that the printer came in whether it explicitly states on the box that it's AirPrint compatible? I've seen some of these boxes and they have a few 'check boxes' on the outside that have been manually ticked with a marker pen to indicate the precise features that the printer in the box has. Does your box have any such check boxes or other indication?

If not, do you have the precise model name and number (OK - you've already given those) and the suffixes that come after the number?

According to the printer compatibility this printer model should end in e-AiO if it is compatible.

iOS: AirPrint 101

I didn't say anything earlier because I just assumed that if AirPrint could see it at all it would be a compatible printer. I could be wrong about that.

I suspect that, as usual, you are right and that it's something else that is causing the problem! But there are so few AirPrint-compatible printers out there at the moment that I'm not entirely sure what causes a printer to show up as available in the iPad. It's clearly not simply that it's a WiFi printer, that's for sure, because I have a Samsung Laser Printer that's WiFi and it doesn't show in the AirPrint Print menu, which is why I have to use Print Central.

So, almost certainly, my suggestion is another 'wild goose chase'!

Tim, I have that printer, once in awhile I have to shut it off and back on after that it prints fine in print share. Other apps I have not worked on yet but after the reboot it does work in print share. If it is the exact printer it states on the box that it is a e printer. See I may be good for something's sfterall.

You are too hard on yourself - it's only supposed to be we British that are self-deprecating. Good to hear from you again....

So, to print with this printer, you have to use Print N Share - the third party app and you cannot print directly without that additional app?

I've never had to use my print central, just reboot and then the little green light goes on in print share, and it prints anything I want.

Correct, and the printer says it is a e printer, in the morning I will go get the box out and give you all the info off of it, as besides rebooting the printer I have never had a problem.

ok....the box says......HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer E710n . On the front of the box it says "HP ePrint -- Print anywhere from any mobile device iPod iPhone iPad"

So, if I understand you correctly, this is NOT AirPrint compatible....it is only compatible thru Print n Share or similar app? All so very confusing to newbies.

So which is better ---- Print Central Or Print n share ?

No - you should be able to print to this model directly without any third-party app. twerppoet was right and I was, as usual :( , wrong.

So we need to sort out why this is not working - it definitely should work without a third-party app....

OK - let's summarise, you've tried the 'completely power down the iPad' solution by pressing and holding the Power button, you've power recycled the printer and this problem still persists...

OK - do you have access to a PC that you can use to interrogate your ADSL broadband WiFi router? Can you see what IP address the printer has been allocated? One problem I've had in the past is that the router can re-allocate IP addresses as devices come and go and that sometimes 'confuses' the iPad. You can see I'm clutching at straws here because it should simply work 'out of the box' but I'm determined to find the solution...

Yeah!!!!!!! Success!!!!! I had definitely power cycled the IPad......and I thought I had done the Printer, but wasn't sure. So, when I did that....it worked great. You guys rock!!!

OK....now, one more question.....another new topic! Regarding printing without a network.

Same exact problem!

Hi all. So I have the exact same printer and am having the same exact problem as bustoc. However, I tried the solution suggested by Tim and it didn't work for me :(

I just bought the printer yesterday and upgraded the firmware. I can print, scan, and do everything else just fine from my Macbook Pro. Is there anything else I can do to get Air Print working with my iPad?

Thanks ahead of time!

When you try to print from within an app on the iPad, does the menu offer you the option of your printer - but then it just doesn't print - or can't you even 'see' your printer listed as being available?

I have found that if I have a problem once in awhile with my printer and print sharevitbhelps my printer if I have myblaptop running, don't know why I never put anything in myblaptop about print share, but I do believe itbis router related. If young tonapplevsupportbyoubshould be able to pull up a listvof printer thatvare AirPrint and or e print capable. If doesn't help feel free to contact me and I will email younthevlist, I believe I still have it in my files, and if finances allow and depending on what you are printing try tonget a officevprinter as thevphoto smartvprinters go through a lot of ink as I foundvout the hard way.don't know a lot butbif I can help I will.
