How to find out what "Other" content is

In iTunes, the thermometer at the bottom of the Device Summary screen shows the types of data (Audio, Video, Photos, etc.) in different colors on a thermometer display. All of a sudden I have big fat 3Gb or "Other" (yellow) segment there. The last time I looked you could hardly see the little yellow strip on the right (it was really small). I've racked my brain ... what did I do?

Is there any way to figure out what that stuff is?

Strange, I just plugged in again and now Other is down to 0.7Gb from 3Gb. I updated a couple of apps. That's it. Weird.
