I'm currently in the Phillipines and my ipad detected that my location is somewhere in vietnam. I don't know where to set it. My sister is experiencing the same thing on her itouch. Though, it detected that her location is in china.

Huh? I thought the Philippines were in Vietnam :)

I had the same thing happen to me on a recent trip to Cebu. My location was Japan though... I had to reboot my iPad - hold the power and home buttons till it shuts down and restarts - then it was fine.

No, Philippines and Vietnam are two different countries. Anyways, I tired rebooting my ipad and now it says "cannot detect location". Before rebooting my ipad detected that i was in chongqing. Thanks For your help BTW.

Okay I get it. My sister and I are both detected by our apple products to be in chongqing china. How can we fix this? Thank you.

What model of iPad do you have? (Is it WiFi only, or WiFi + 3G)?

Has your iPad normally shown you the correct location, and suddenly 'gone wrong'. Or, has it never been able to display the correct position?

I'm only guessing right now, but I suspect that if you have a WiFi only iPad, then you might be in an area without sufficient WiFi coverage to get a fix. The 3G iPads have GPS satellite receivers built in and can determine thier location without WiFi.

Thank you, this might help because the ipad could detect properly way back in California. And now its in the Philippines it started to detect different places. It's a WiFi only iPad2. Thank you for your help. :)

Ha.. OK... Then the wifi positioning is definitely the problem.

In the US, the exact location of just about all the wifi systems online is known. Your location can be calculated by triangulating between the wifi spots that your wifi iPad is hearing.

You are most likely in an area where the exact location of the wifi spots near you is unknown. In that case the location finder won't work. I'm guessing again, but it could be that the internet service provider for the wifi spot(s) around you is from Vietnam.. If so, then your iPad will see a wifi signal with a Veitnam IP number near you and this will make it think that it's in Veitnam.
