I have a bunch of anime with subs.

How do I play .mp4 with .a s s subtitles on iPad? What's the best way? Do I need to re-encode? Suggest free tools if needed

OK, I downloaded some players from the AppStore and after some trial and error, I found 3 players that worked with my .a s s subtitles. I didn't need to re-encode or anything. The files worked straight up (e.g. Anime123.mp4 and Anime123.a s s). Just import the individual files via iTunes and you're set. The best part is that all these players are FREE! :o

GPlayer
HD Player
MoliPlayer

I hope this helps somebody else.
