Are you talking about the Photos and Camera apps. I see no difference in the trim controls in either app, so long as the movie is still on the Camera Roll. If the trim controls are not showing in the Photos app, just tap in the middle of the screen (not on the Play icon) and the usual trim controls should show up at the top of the screen.

If not, try clearing the Photos app from RAM and opening it again.

Close/Clear the app: With the problem app closed, double tap on the Home button to get the multitask bar. Tap and hold on any icon in the bar until they jiggle, then tap the minus sign on the problem app. This will remove it from RAM and insure a clean start the next time you launch the app.

What version of iOS are you using?

The ability to edit in the Photos app was introduced in iOS 5. If the video is in the Camera Roll album, it should be editable in the Photos app. If it has been synced back from the computer using iTunes (in a synced album), it can not be edited in the Photos app.

You can edit video synced to a Photos album in iMovie, and probably some other third party video editing apps.
