Hi again: screen shot wanted but I get sound effects?

Greetings all! When I try it take a screen shot by pressing the home and off button together, "sound effects" appears on my screen. Could this be related to my lack of sound? How do I change it back so that I can take a screen shot? Thank you in advance.

Make sure your volume button is working flawlessly. Try to turn the volume up and down. Take a closer look, if there's a dent next to it, or if the button is dented itself.
