Fraud warning data

Does anyone know how the Fraud Warning Safari option determines if a site is fraudulent or compromised? I am reading reviews and the setting seems to be unreliable. I tested a few sites and had mixed results. I am wondering where the data for determination originates.

Thanks in advance,
Jim

It uses a blacklist database maintained by Google.

I haven't seen any recent articles about it, so I don't know how it is working now. There was a lot of controversy when it first came out, about whether it did anything at all. It may have been due to failure of the blacklist to update on phones in a timely manner. Apple said it only updated when the phone was on, inactive, and charging.

Here is the old article I used to refresh my memory.
