Facebook might soon bring the Home application to iOS

A new stream of rumors indicates that social media giant Facebook is avidly trying to become a more permanent presence on the iPhone. Reportedly, the company is thinking of creating a special mobile software which will be mounted on Apple’s smartphone - the Home application.

In an interview given to Bloomberg, Facebook's director of product, Adam Mosseri, explained that the company is looking to expand its reach on mobile platforms, in an attempt to bring its services to as many users possible. So at the moment, the company is talking with representatives of Apple and Microsoft. Nevertheless, for those anxious to see a deeply integrated Facebook into the iOS, don’t hold your breath yet, as the deal has not been finalized yet.

Facebook has already released the Android version of the software it intends to build for Apple (and Microsoft?).

However, if the deal goes through and Facebook starts building a Home software for the iPhone, Mosseri states that the iOS version will turn out to be very different from the Android one. For one, the social media giant would have to adapt the software to Apple’s preferences. And Apple can be hard to please. He gave some examples:

"We could... just bring some of the design values to the iOS app. That might be how it ends up. Or we could build just the lock screen. Maybe then it's not called Home, it's called something else."

Considering that nowadays, most people sign in on Facebook via their mobile devices and keeping in mind that Apple is the lead smartphone vendor in the United States, Mark Zuckerberg’s strategy makes a lot of sense.
