Dropbox Updates its iOS App with File Commenting, 1Password Login, Lets you Create Office Docs

Dropbox is one of the most popular file hosting services, offering cloud storage, file synchronization, personal cloud, and client software. The company has millions of users all over the world, and many of them come from the iOS platform.

The company is now rolling out a new version of its iPhone and iPad app, bringing some useful new features. Here's how the official changelog of the most recent version 3.9 looks like:

• Comment directly on your files, and bring others into the discussion with @mentions!
• New Recents tab gives you an up-to-date look at all your recent activity
• 1Password login extension support to create or access your 1Password items
• Behind the scenes changes to make the app more reliable

Albeit it isn't mentioned in the official webpage of the app, Dropbox for iOS will soon also gain the ability to create Microsoft Office files including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents directly from the app. This is a really neat feature and shows that Dropbox is feeling a lot of pressure from its competitors, therefore it had to arrange for such an exclusive partnership with Microsoft.

Dropbox for iOS also now supports commenting on files and mentioning other users, so you can now mention others by name or email address, and the app now includes notifications for new activity. This is really helpful when working in teams. Furthermore, 1Password users with the app installed will now be allowed to open the security vault from within the Dropbox sign-in view.
