I am wondering if, when you download an App from iTunes/iCloud, if it's necessary to have a VPN enabled?

Put another way, are iTunes & iCloud part of the Internet or are they part of Apple's Intranet (if it exists?)

I would assume Apple's Intranet to be secure enough to make enabling a VPN unnecessary, therefore downloads would be faster.

Thank You! :)

Hi Sproingy - the Apple 'App Store' is part of iTunes (see the screen capture from my MBPro), where apps can be obtained for iDevices or Mac computers - downloads, updates, and re-downloads are handled there - iTunes is a website (not your other options) - an Apple ID is required to make these transactions - check this LINK. The security used by Apple for transferring their media to your various devices is likely the best available to guarantee your safety - a VPN is not needed (of course, unless you're ISP or corporate organization is using one). Hope this helps - Dave :)
