After being named "Person of the Year" by the Financial Times, and also being a runner-up for Time's own "Person of the Year" award, Apple's CEO has now received another noteworthy distinction.

CNN has named Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook its 2014 CEO of the year, placing him ahead such top executive as BlackBerry CEO John Chen, Meg Whitman of Hewlett-Packard, and Sally Smith of Buffalo Wild Wings, among others.

The CNNMoney rankings noted that AAPL stock is up 40 percent this year, and reached new all-time high levels. Here's what the publication said:

Apple is the apple of Wall Street's eye again. And that's why Tim Cook is our choice for best CEO of 2014. The stock is up 40% this year and near an all-time high thanks to the launch of the latest iPhones and Apple Pay service as well as excitement about the Apple Watch due out in 2015.

Cook has arguably the toughest CEO job in America. He's had to convince skeptics that Apple (AAPL, Tech30) can still innovate after the death of Steve Jobs. He's proven all the naysayers wrong.

As we can see, the publication speaks about the successful debuts of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, as well as Apple Pay, but also takes into account the "excitement" surrounding the launch of the Apple Watch in early 2015.

In the same list, CNNMoney slammed Microsoft's Satya Nadella for his "tone deaf comment about women", mentioned that Yahoo's Marissa Mayer "may not deserve all the credit" for her company's success in 2014 and observed that oted shares of T-Mobile are down 25 percent this year under the leadership of John Legere, despite of all his uncarrier efforts.
