Apple CEO Tim Cook has been travelling far and wide lately, meeting two heads of state in two days, and his travels continue today, according to 9to5 Mac, with a meeting with the Turkish president.

Although it is not know precisely what Tim Cook and his delegation talked about when they met President Abdullah Gül today, before the event took place, AppleInsider predicted that they would be discussing Turkey’s “FATIH Project,†which involves replacing traditional teaching methods with digital equipment such as the iPad.

The first phase of the FATIH Project would see Turkey buying 10.6 million tablets, with an option to buy another 2 to 2.5 million tablets over the next four years. In total, the plan would cost somewhere between $2 billion and $4 billion, so you can see why Cook was so keen to meet with the president.

9to5 Mac reports that it is also thought that Cook and the president talked about the sales tax that is levied on iPhones and iPads in Turkey, with Cook asking for it to be removed. It has also been reported that the Turkish president asked when would Siri be getting Turkish language support. Apparently the Turkish president also requested that Apple invest in local Turkish R&D projects.

Finally, during the visit Tim Cook also announced the opening of Apple’s first Turkish store in Istanbul in April.
