An Italian priest in Rome has created an iPad app that will enable priests celebrating Mass to use an iPad at the pulpit instead of the Roman missal. The Rev. Paolo Padrini, a consultant with the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Social Communications, told The Chicago Sun Times on Friday that the free app will be launched in July in English, French, Spanish, Italian and Latin.
Padrini has a history of iWorship, having developed the iBreviary two years ago, an iPhone app that featured the book of daily prayers used by priests, and which has so far been downloaded by over 200, 000 people.
Padrini says that his forthcoming iPad app will also include the complete missal – which is everything that is spoken and sung at Mass during the year.
“Paper books will never disappear,†he told the Times, adding, “we shouldn’t be scandalised that on altars there are these instruments in support of prayer.â€
