Today is World AIDS Day, dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. On 1 December, every year since 1987, government and health officials, non-governmental organizations, companies and individuals are part of it.

To mark this moment, Apple’s brick and mortar and online stores around the world have tinted their logos red in recognition of the event. Also, Apple’s online stores are promoting (RED) products, including Apple-brand (RED) accessories such as the $200 Beats headphones, the $49 iPod shuffle and others.

The Cupertino-based company also said that 100 percent of proceeds from In-App Purchases and downloads of participating iPhone and iPad apps will go to the Global Fund through December 7. Apple changed the color of its stores around the world to mark other events such as the 2014 Earth Day.

Apple’s website now mentions the following:

"To honor World AIDS Day, every product we sell today will support (RED). Today, we’re contributing a portion of the proceeds from every product, accessory, and gift card we sell at the Apple Retail Store and Apple Online Store to the Global Fund to fight AIDS. And when you buy or make in-app purchases in any of the special Apps for (RED) through December 7, we’ll donate 100 percent of the proceeds. "

Besides accessories and apps, every iPad, Mac, iPhone and Apple TV sold by Apple today will help global efforts to fight AIDS.
