AppleInsider reports today on yet another story on DigiTimes about the rumoured 7.85-inch iPad. According to DigiTimes’ sources, this new, mini version of the iPad will have a slimmer bezel in order to maximise available screen size. The sources also told DigiTimes that Apple wants to release a smaller version of the iPad in order to compete with the likes of Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab. The sources also reveal that the new, smaller iPad will not have a Retina display like that of the newly launched third iteration of the iPad, and will instead use IPS/FFS panels from LG Display and possibly AU Optronics. The word from the sources is that the smaller iPad will be priced at around $249 or $299, definitely under $300, or else what would be the point?! That would make the new mini iPad $100 less than the newly-reduced-in-price-iPad 2.
