Apple set to launch new 9.7 inch iPad at tomorrow's field trip educational event.webp

AppleInsider reports that according to a new note to investors from KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is set to announce a new 9.7-inch iPad at its educationally themed “Field Trip” event that is due to be held in Chicago, Illinois, tomorrow. And Kuo says that thanks to the new iPad’s compatibility with the Apple Pencil, Apple’s latest tablet could see very strong demand, representing around 70% of iPad sales in 2018.

Kuo adds that the introduction of Apple Pencil compatibility for the new iPad will give a huge boost to many partners in Apple’s supply chain. With Apple Pencil units set to reach 10 million, up from 4.5 million in 2017, suppliers such as Compal, Unimicron, Unitech, and Simplo could benefit greatly.

It’s possible that Apple will also be announcing other new iPads at tomorrow’s event (which will not be livestreamed by Apple), but Kuo says that the rumoured iPad Pro with TrueDepth camera system and Face ID will not be one of them, as it is not now expected to launch until the third quarter of this year.
