By now, you have probably heard about the horrific attack on the satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo that left 12 dead. Apple too has decided to show its support for the victims of the tragedy by updating its French website with a full-width black banner that reads "Je suis Charlie.", as you can see in the image above.

The black banner on Apple.fr has in the middle a stylized "Je suis Charlie" (I am Charlie) logo, which is the same mark seen on Charlie Hebdo's own website and on signs carried by crowds participating throughout Europe.

Apple is known for its support of media makers and involvement in important events that are affecting not only the American society but the entire world. The company also likes to take a different business approach, as we've seen in the "Think Different" ad campaign that included a handful of legendary artists.

Therefore, the banner represents a show of solidarity not only with the magazine, but with creatives from all over the world. It's also a move that could mean Apple is a strong supporter of free speech.

Charlie Hebdo has sparked outrage from the Muslim community in the past for publishing notorious cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad. Back in 2011, the magazine was bombed after running a satirical cartoon shown mocking the religious figure, but this week, gunmen raided Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris and opened fire on staff during a lunchtime meeting.

We remind you that four of the magazine's cartoonists, including its editor, were killed in the attack as well as two police officers.
