Hi All
I have just received for Christmas a 32GB iPad... wifi but not 3G.
Firstly, do I need 3G? I am not likely to use it as a browser away from home very often, I do have an iPhone which I occasionally use but never really find it satisfactory. Could I use the iPad as a GPS? My car has an inbuilt GPS which costs $300 to upgrade to new maps every time which seems quite ridiculous when I have the one on my phone but that is rather small.
If it is considered that having 3G is better, can i do something to convert my new iPad to 3G?
Thank you and any tips would be well received. I know nothing at all about technology.
Thank you
Sandy

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

It is really a personal choice to have 3G or not. I have it but I travel both here and overseas and want to be able to have coverage wherever I am. There are other ways to acquire connectivity though, tethering with your iPhone is one and buying a mobile device that will allow varying number of devices to connect to the net is another. Only a 3g ipad will allow full GPS coverage although there is some success with wifi only but wholly dependent on the number of Towers in the area you are in. Even though both our cars have built in satnavs we still use the iPad, the screen size makes it an ideal viewing platform to navigate for long drives in the country exploring. You need to work out what you need from the ipad. I say if you can afford it get it. I have Telstra prepaid and just top up when I will be needing it. Apple does have a 14 day window in which if you change your mind you can upgrade. Food for thought anyway, hope this helps you.

Yes they will, I recently bought a MacBook pro for my daughter and was told to have her try it out and even to install software she wanted to run. Well she did and decided faster processors was the way to go. We just deleted everything and took it back within the time period, not a problem! There are many here who have done the same thing. Good luck with your decision!
