According to a research note obtained by AppleInsider from KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the rumored 12.9-inch iPad Pro tablet will not be ready in time for a first quarter debut. Kuo also expects overall iPad shipments to fall dramatically in the first quarter of 2015, despite Apple's recent iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 releases.

The reason why the iPad Pro release could be delayed is because Apple is using the oxide LCD technology for the larger iPad's high resolution display, which is needed for quick response times and high color saturation. Apple recently used a large-format 27-inch oxide TFT panel in the iMac with Retina 5K display.

The analyst says that there are supply chain issues with the component production and assembly, which means the iPad Pro won't enter mass production until the second quarter of 2015 at the earliest. In other words, Apple's partners aren't experienced in building such big displays in great numbers.

Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that for the three-month period ending in March, iPad shipments will decrease to 9.8 million total units, which represents a fall of 54.5 percent quarter-over-quarter. Let's see whether the elusive iPad Pro can help Apple get back those sales.
