I work in I.T. I'm always thinking about backup. I'm a fanatic about it, in fact. At home I backup my PCs to removable hard drives. I have 3 copies. One is always off site in case there's a fire. I'll never lose my photos, videos, etc.
My wife has an iPad and I take the backup of it...
I think you misunderstood. The server is a quad core Win 7 Ultimate x64 with 6 gb ram running at 3.4 ghz. It would appear that their converter isn't very efficient with high def if it's doing the conversion.
My reference to a net book was to show that the net book can play the streamed video...
Unfortunately I don't think too highly of this product. I have a ton of home movies, all in HD 720P, taken on my point-and-click Panasonic Lumix camera. The playback is terrible. It plays for a few seconds then stops. I have to wait a few more seconds and press play again. Then it plays for...
Can you give details? I have PDAnet on my Droid Incredible and when I turn on bluetooth tethering and then tell the iPad to connect nothing happens. They never find each other. Is there a setting on the iPad that tells it that it's a client and not a host?
Thanks to everyone. This has been a very pleasant experience and the vast majority of you are very knowledgeable and tolerant. I agree that it's threads like these that help others make decisions.
Ok, permit me one more rant/question. And, this is not something I would have even thought...
I will absolutely agree with you on one thing, the quality of Apple's products is outstanding. I have an iPod that I've used for 4 years, it sits permanently in my car which gets terribly hot and never fails. Just runs and runs and runs.
But, there's a price for that premium. Think of it...
You are partly correct. I have a 2009 Ford with Sync. There are great new features in the latest Sync. Unfortunately my model won't get those new features.
However, I have a PC in my den that I bought in 2004. I just installed Windows 7 and it purrs along just fine.
The caveat is that...
Bingo! You hit the nail on the head. Apple is a marketing company, not a product company. They could be selling ball bearings and as long as they were shiny and premium priced people would buy them because they would be marketed as "insanely great" ball bearings.
I didn't realize I'd create such a stir.
I understand why people like the iPad, I really do. It's sexy. Very sexy. But it puts unnecessary demands to go along with that sexiness.
Some of them just can't be explained. Some of them can be fixed via apps.
For example: In a 16:9 world why...
Yes, I've seen that. But that's not what I want the SD card port for. Apple's just treating the SD card as a peripheral for a very narrow purpose.
I want a tablet that only comes with 8gb or maybe 16gb of memory and then lets me put in a 32gb SD card to expand the memory of the device.
I...
Ok, guys. I don't dislike the iPad. But, I have my price. I'd like it a heck of alot if it were $150, had an SD card slot, USB ports and HDMI out.
I think that the time will come when I see all those things for $150 but it won't be made by Apple.
Two comments:
1. Almost any laptop with built-in wifi and Windows 7 can become a wifi hotspot with Connectify.
2. All Verizon Droids and any other Android phone will be able to be a wifi hotspot when Android version 2.2 rolls out. It's built into the Android OS. When it rolls out is...
