If these supply chain rumors are true, then Apple may already be working on a new Apple TV that will debut sometime next year. The intel we have is that Apple will begin production on a faster version of the Apple TV in late December, and they plan to ramp up production in the first quarter of 2016, for a launch later in the year.

The specifics of the rumor claim that Apple is working on a new Apple TV CPU which will "dramatically improve the device's hardware performance." Additionally, they are supposedly working on an innovative new "heat-dissipation solution" to mitigate any problems the faster new chip might cause. The rumor goes on to say that this faster CPU will allow the Apple TV to have unspecified "new functions."

We will keep an eye out for any further corroboration of this rumor. Here at HQ we aren't really that excited by the idea of a "faster" Apple TV. It seems like the device handles its functions perfectly fine as is. The main thing we are looking forward to is when Apple works out the licensing deals with the various media companies so they can start their own Streaming service. It will be services and content that allows one media device to triumph over the others, not a "faster processor." What do you think?

I'd really like to see Apple make the Apple TV a more powerful simple gaming device, similar to the Nintendo Wii. "A Family Friendly Gaming Machine"

That's one of the only reasons you'd need a faster, more powerful CPU. Simple streaming doesn't require the rumoured faster processor.
