Does anyone know if it's a good idea to clear website data. I just discovered it... what happens when you clear it ?

There is no need, unless you want to clear an individual site's data while leaving everything else intact. When you clear your history, cookies and data the list is automatically emptied.

I noticed that. Very strange. The text showed up in the email from the site.

I suppose if you clear it it will only give more space to your system.
By the way, you can also delete individual data by dragging your finger to the right ( a delete option shows up ).
And as mentioned by KevinJS, clearing cookies and data in Safari delete the whole list.

What is website data. I found some adult sites and matchmaking sites and was wondering if they were sites that were visited or just adware type data that save to ur iPad when visiting other sites. My kid uses my iPad and just want to be sure he's not visiting these bad sites.

It's not necessary to visit a site for stuff to turn up in website data.

But I'm pretty sure you don't get a whole list of porn by opening Facebook, if you catch my drift.

I just checked my website data. I haven't cleared anything for months, and I'm pretty bad for following links from one site to another, so I probably get a representative sample of this extra data.

I went through the whole list carefully, and there's nothing there that looks like "adult" material. Not saying it can't happen, but it doesn't look likely from where I'm sitting.

As already noted, clearing website data on newer generation iPads is probably not necessary. But it is one of the ways to keep your iPad ONE functioning without Safari shutting down and returning you to home screen.

Occasionally you will need to clear your web browser “cache†to re-enable a web page or get rid of bad data. Each web browser handles this is a different way.

Hi
My iPad memory is full. If I delete website data will it free up some memory? What is website data and is there any reason I would regret deleting it? Many thanks if you can help.

Website data are cookies saved from websites you visited in Safari, as well as your browsing history. Removing these won't really help with your storage. You'll need to remove stuff you don't use/need: apps, photos, music...

I regularly remove these, not so much because of the space used, but because not all cookies can be trusted and I feel that some of them are an invasion of my privacy.
