How good is the quality of video transfer from iPad to TV using the HDMI connector?

I am talking about movies and TV programmes.

I have a 3rd party HDMI connector and it plays my HD holiday MP4 video just as clear as the Original MKV file I made. I tired the BBC iPlayer and that wasn't so good, but difficult to tell as its streaming from the net.
