    In Australia, two planes collided in the air in September 1940. They remained locked together after the collision and landed safely. All the crewmen survived. The upper plane was repaired and able to fly again.

    A Dutch designer, Daan Roosegaarde, has worked with the State University of New York to create glow-in-the-dark trees, hoping to use them instead of street lights.

    While Antarctica is very cold, it's not all ice and snow. About 1,200 square miles of the continent are made up of "dry valleys" where mountains and ridges keep out any precipitation.

    Tashirojima Island, a Japanese island, is mostly known as Cat Island, because of the large population of stray cats. Only 100 people are living there.

    There's an annual competition in Cumbria, England, called "World's Biggest Liar". Competitors from around the world have to tell a lie as convincing as possible within five minutes. Everyone is allowed to take part, except for politcians and lawyers, because they are supposed to be too skilled at telling lies.

    Concert violinist Roger Frisch of the Minnesota Orchestra experienced small tremors that prevented him from doing his job. So he had a brain surgery, during which he was awake and playing the violin throughout the procedure, while an electrode was inserted in his thalamus.

    Book scorpions/pseudoscorpions are arachnids. They are found in rooms with dusty books. Their size is 2.5 mm - 4.5 mm, and they eat booklice and house dust mites, thus protecting books.
