Apple's upcoming Campus 2 headquarters is one of the most interesting buildings of our times. With a spaceship-like design, the huge building will be set in a 2.8 million-square-foot area and will cost Apple around $5 billion to set it up entirely.

Now, Apple and the City of Cupertino have shared an official updated aerial shot of the site showing the latest progress on the project. It seems that Apple has made a lot of progress on the building’s foundation and earthwork for the surrounding campus since the last check.

The new building is set to house 12,000 staff by its estimated 2016 completion date, with the construction having started in the second quarter of 2014 earlier this year. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently referred to the ‘Spaceship” Campus 2 HQ in a recent interview, saying it will “be the greenest building on the planet.”

Apple Campus 2 is regarded as Steve Jobs' last project. Originally expected to break ground in 2013 and open in 2015, the project experienced delays and started in 2014, so it is expected to be open in mid-2016.
