I'm trying to import bookmarks from Chrome to Safari on my iPad Air.

I'm told to select 'file' in the menu bar, where is the menu bar?

Or is there another way of doing it?

I suppose you found instructions how to sync with Safari on a Mac or something like this. Safari on your iPad doesn't have a "Menu" bar such as Safari on a computer. You can sync Chrome bookmarks to Safari on your iPad through iCloud.
Set up iCloud on your PC.
Look at this link, it may help: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1455

Thanks but no.

The bookmarks listed in the Control Panel options relate to the browsers installed on my 'computer' not the browsers installed on my iPad Air.

I want to copy/transfer/backup the bookmarks from my Air Chrome to my Air Safari to save a very long winded job of doing it indiviually.

Sorry! If you don't use Chrome on your computer, there's no other way.
